Getting the Word Out

Welcome

Welcome to my portfolio, where you’ll find a sampling of my work as a professional editor, communications strategist, and recent graduate of Portland State University’s master’s program in book publishing. As an endlessly curious reader and creative problem-solver, I joined the book business to feed my fiction addiction and pursue my ambition of becoming the Leslie Knope of publishing, one book at a time.

Before earning my master’s in publishing, I worked for three years as a copyeditor with Wipf & Stock Publishers and served on the staffs of five publications, editing everything from scholarly research to literary fiction and feature-style journalism. I am also a proud alumna of the University of Oregon’s Robert D. Clark Honors College, where I coordinated a campus-wide Common Reading Program and wrote my honors English thesis on the rhetoric of editing. These days, you can find me marking up my latest manuscript over a coffee at Powell’s or staying up volunteering with Late Night Library.

Please enjoy my portfolio. You’re welcome to connect with me on LinkedIn or at info@alexofus.com, and happy reading!

Hey there!

Welcome to my portfolio, where you’ll find a sampling of my work as a freelance editor and graduate of Portland State University’s master’s program in book publishing. As an incurably curious reader and creative problem-solver, I joined the book business to feed my fiction addiction and pursue my quest to become the Leslie Knope of publishing, one book at a time.

Since earning my master’s in publishing, I've launched Inkling Editorial to offer authors a full suite of editorial and publishing services, drawing on my four years’ experience managing the many details and deadlines that keep a publishing house running smoothly as the Publishing Coordinator at Timber Press. Before joining Timber's team, I worked for three years as a copyeditor with Wipf & Stock Publishers and staffed five university publications, editing everything from scholarly research to literary fiction and feature-style journalism. I’m also a proud alumna of the University of Oregon’s Robert D. Clark Honors College, where I coordinated a campus-wide Common Reading Program and wrote my honors English thesis on editorial best practices. These days, you can find me marking up my latest manuscript over coffee at Denver’s Tattered Cover or volunteering with the Children’s Book Bank.

Please enjoy my publishing portfolio. You’re welcome to connect with me on LinkedIn or via email to let me know how I can help!

Expertise

Editing

From global developmental editing to substantive line editing, copyediting, typecoding, and proofreading, I do it all. I polish prose until it shines, with every word clear, correct, and beautiful.

Marketing

I live for the creative challenge of telling each book's story, and my mission is to bring communities of readers into conversation with the authors whose books bring our lives new meaning.

Publication Management

Publishing is a team effort. As the Publishing Coordinator at Timber and Ooligan, Editor in Chief at Ephemera, and a founding editor of OUR Journal, I developed a knack for managing all the details to make sure my team delivers on tight deadlines.
